Security Detection a Winner at Pan Am Games

Security Detection was chosen by the Federal Police of Mexico to supply detection devices and crowd security expertise at the 16th Pan American Games, an international multi-sport event held in and around Guadalajara in October, 2011. The games attracted more than six thousand athletes from 42 Western Hemisphere countries as well as one million spectators.

Technicians from the Security Detection U.S. and Guadalajara offices supervised the use of 270 walk through metal detectors, handheld security wands and 46 security X-ray machines. These were used at the sprawling athlete's village and at 31 indoor and outdoor venues throughout Guadalajara and in the nearby cities of Ciudad Guzman, Puerto Vallarta, Lagos de Moreno, and Tapalpa.

Security Detection was also tasked with screening visitors and their luggage at nine bustling visitor hotels.

"This was a major undertaking that presented enormous logistical challenges, "said Randy Smith, Security Detection's western region president. "To complicate matters, the ongoing Mexican drug war had some countries, including the United States and Canada, expressing concerns about the safety and security of the region."

Smith enthusiastically points out that the entire spectacle - including the screening of 70,000 spectators prior to the opening and closing ceremonies in Guadalajara - proceeded without a hitch.

"Our contribution to public safety was so successful and seamless, we were immediately hired to handle security assignments at the Parapan American Games, which followed the Pan Am Games in the same venues," said Smith.

The Parapan American Games is a multi-sport event held every four years after every Pan American Games for athletes with physical disabilities.

Integral to the massive security efforts were Garrett PD 6500i Enhanced Pinpoint Walk-Through Metal Detectors. This advanced technology is extremely reliable and features 200 levels of sensitivity, all of which operated to perfection for Security Detection in Mexico.

Security Detection's clients have the option to either rent security metal detectors / X-ray machines or purchase these devices. Many find renting reassuring because they know that the company will provide the latest top-notch systems to secure each upcoming event, whether it takes place in the next few months or the following year.

A large percentage of clients are repeat customers who also serve as a foundation for new business. While Security Detection attends trade shows and conducts some outbound marketing, referrals are a key to the company's growth. According to Smith, "the majority of new business from our large rental clients is word of mouth."

The flawless efforts at the Pan Am and Parapan Games once again demonstrated that Security Devices' technology, experienced staff at seven regional U.S. offices, and logistical expertise, makes the company an excellent choice to secure events anywhere in the world.

"We trained hard and came well prepared to participate at Pan Am," said Smith, "and our entire team felt as proud as any gold medal winner once the games were over."

The players at Security Detection now look forward to the next major challenge.
